X-Men Cast & Release Date Announced at D23!

Well, another D23 is here and with that comes brand new Marvel announcements! Going into the panel, it was heavily speculated that we’d get our first bout of X-Men news. Well, I can happily say that they more than delivered!

Casting Galore!

If you pay attention to leaks and rumors, it may have been easy to assume this was going to happen. However, there were still a few surprises thrown into the mix! For anyone that’s seen “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, the big one that’s already known is that Sadie Sink is our new Jean Grey.

Then, as previously reported by Deadline, Samara Weaving will be playing Emma Frost. This was then followed by another report of Kit Connor as leader of the team, Cyclops. Lastly, there were rumors swirling around both Inde Navarette and Adam Driver, with the former saying she’d love to play Mystique while the latter was heavily rumored to be Magneto or Mr. Sinister. Well, now it’s finally time to lay all of that to rest.

As of last night, seemingly our whole new cast of mutants has been confirmed! Besides Sink, Weaving and Connor comes Inde Navarette not as Mystique, but as the one and only Rogue! Joining her are Adam Driver, Christopher Abbot and Maya Boyd. Driver will be portraying the classic X-Men villain Mr. Sinister, while Abbot and Boyd will be portraying Professor X and Storm! With Driver’s inclusion as Sinister, this is something fans have waited roughly a decade for, as the character was hinted to be coming in the after credit scene of 2016’s “X-Men: Apocalypse”.

Where Will They Be First?

As for the other characters, it’s currently unclear if or when we’ll see them in the MCU prior to the film’s release. My money is on them appearing in 2027’s “Avengers: Secret Wars”. As for Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, she can currently be seen in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” as a slightly more antagonistic take on the character. Given the events of that film and how the idea of being a mutant was handled, I have so much faith in this movie! It’s going to be truly amazing and something else. Until then, we’ll see our new X-Men in theaters on May 5th, 2028!

My Thoughts

As a big X-Men fan, this cast has me beyond excited. After having seen “Obsession“, I just know in my heart that Inde has what it takes to bring my favorite hero to life. One thing that I love as well is that this cast is a great mix. While there’s some bigger names like Samara Weaving and Adam Driver, there’s also some up-and-comers like Maya Boyd and Kit Connor, really giving them the chance to shine as these characters. Marvel Studios has yet to miss really when it comes to casting, and I don’t think that changed here. Hopefully time proves me right.
