“This is Not Confession”

Father Stygian and Father Barrera are traveling down the road. As the drive goes along Father Barrera tries to tell Stygian of his past. Father Stygian uses this as the first important lesson. Never bring baggage into an exorcism as it will be used against you by the demon.

The two arrive at Maru’s house to unfortunately give the last rites to her young son Alex. Upon visiting the boy, they learn that he has seen Father Varden. The problem with that is Father Varden committed suicide months ago. Now instead of last rites, they are about to perform an exorcism. However, nothing could prepare them for what happens next.

“He’s Over Here”

Issue two is a nice continuation from the first issue. Gus Moreno does a great job of showing us the reluctant partnership between our two main characters. At the same time, he also subtly lets the reader know that there is more to the story that hasn’t been revealed. This issue has a wonderful mixture of story building and some in your face horror.

Speaking of in-your-face horror, Jakub Rebelka captures that and more with his art. The grotesque scenes are on point and give you that uneasy feel. Well, the rest of the book features some beautiful and great original art. Becca Carey really brings the heat with the lettering in this book as well. The different styles really bring a different voice to each character and feelings to every panel.

Final Thoughts

When I Lay My Vengeance Upon Thee #2 is a great continuation to this budding story. It immerses the reader in the world and keeps you entranced for the entirety of the issue. This is a book that you should pick up and add to your Pull List when you visit your LCS this week.
