The Story:

I thought the last issue was intense but, Geoff tapped into his roots writing The Joker and took this issue to insane levels. I can truly say I did not see the amount of darkness and level of hate coming the way Benedict would deliver. Geoff wrote poison across the script and Rob lettered it in such a vile (not in a bad way) manner that you forget this wasn’t your family who had been murdered. There is pure rage and hate deservedly so in which we have never truly seen Simon go to levels that this issue brings to us. Despite it all and whatever he did to Benny in this issue it still wasn’t enough. This issue is an instant re-read.

The Art:

The imagery alone in this issue is enough to both make us cry and at the same time have us yelling for joy as Simon holds nothing back. This is a violent issue in a way that Redcoat hasn’t given to the reader in the last 19 issues. A splash page where Simon stands alone shadowed out amongst rubble, or smashing someone’s head with a sledgehammer, it doesn’t matter because the art is at levels beyond anything we’ve seen! There is a terrifying way in which Benedict is drawn as the story unfolds and he becomes beaten and bloodied, missing teeth even. His smile and vile words have a twisted creepiness behind them that will send chills down your spine.

Final Thoughts:

This book deserves more than a simple 10/10! Redcoat #20 is action-packed, rage fueled, and extremely satisfying. Simon Pure, who once could be described as cowardly, has come out of his shell and bringing the action with him.

Overall Grade 10/10 hits to Benedict’s face.
