“Harley Quinn x Elvira #6” Review – A Fun, Chaos Induced End

Published:

Yet another end this week to another overall great run on a mini-series. This issue sees Harley Quinn and Elvira reach the conclusion of their chaotic, spooky, and space-faring shenanigans in style. From the writing of Conner and Palmiotti and the artwork of Juan Samu and the colors of Walter Pereya, did this finale stick the landing? Let’s find out!

Writing’s On The Wall

In this final issue of their fantastic miniseries, Palmiotti and Conner seriously stuck the landing! While the previous issue was a bit rocky, this finale was so much better. Where the previous issue put the plot on the back burner, this one makes everything front-and-center and wraps it all up in a neat, blood-soaked bow with bats on it. For example, in my review for “Harley Quinn x Elvira #5”, I stated that the plot with Elvira’s former boss took only one page. However, this finale brings not just this plot back but Harley’s as well, putting them both front and center.

Overall, this final issue, if not the run as a whole, was extremely engaging and fun to read. The pacing, while feeling a bit breakneck, is completely in tune with Harley and Elvira. The chaos and humor both just felt spot on to boot! I especially laughed at a head pun that Harley made, as for some reason, I didn’t expect it at all. Overall, this was a great finale to an equally great run.

Scary Good Artwork

Over the course of the entire run, Samu, Pereya, Palmiotti, and Conner have proven themselves to be a deadly team, and they didn’t pump the brakes here. Creating and having distinct visuals throughout the run, this team was an absolute tour de force. In just this issue alone, we get at least three distinct styles, my favorite of them being Harley getting an anime look for three panels. Not a single style falters, each having amazing pencil work and detail that come off as being very stylish.

As for the colors and shading, they work amazingly well with the penciling to create this rather unique, spooky pop art style. This, paired with the vast color palette, works to create something that only catches the eye, but makes every panel feel and look unique.

Final Thoughts – 8.5/10

From the first page to the last, this was a finale that really stuck the landing. Conner and Palmiotti crafted a story that’s hard to put down. Full of laughter, chaos, and crazy sci-fi, a good time will be had by all who pick up this run!
