It’s a new era for the TMNT universe as the turtles now face a new type of New York after the shocking events in issue 12! While a fight for control of the city’s organized crime begins, both Papa Beng and our heroes discover there is a new player on the board, and his name is Ujigami!

Creative Team: Gene Luen Yang (WRITER), Freddie E. Williams II (ART and COVER), Andrew Dalhouse (COLORS and COVER), and Shawn Lee (LETTERS).
The Story:
Gene takes over and fills the big shoes expertly, with our heroes still battling how to come together as a family, but they have cleared one hurdle and are now the heroes the city needs and deserves! If you were wondering what surprises would come with this next chapter, we did not have to wait long as Gene lays out a massive surprise right in the middle of this issue and lays the seeds of potential conflict! There is a lot of heart and humor in this story, especially with Papa Beng and our turtles, but there is something more coming, and I am hooked!
The Art and Letters:
Freddie is no stranger to the TMNT universe, and his artwork is nothing short of stellar. The bridge all-out battle is chock full of detail amongst those fighting for power, and the panel of the brothers launching into battle is perfectly done. The new mysterious Ujigami is drawn with an air of familiarity, but is also full of intense moments of action. Andrew’s ability to color makes the turtles’ shells and skin pop out from the dark mystique of the NYC skyline at the same time. I’m always impressed with how clunky the turtles are in design, at how fluid these two make them move as though they are weightless.
Final Thoughts:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 ushers us into a new era for the beloved brothers, but not without adding mystery and shock to the fold. This issue should have fans talking big time, and everyone needs to get their hands on it!
Overall Grade: 10/10 Shells!
