The Story:

This issue, unlike a majority of the other features a more narratively driven plot from Zack, and he shines brightly in this aspect. We are seeing the Asvalds in a new light, which is them asking for help. This leads us to meeting Yusef, who works a deal out with Erik, and it’s a wonderful way for the story to be flipped on its head. Frey and her father still battle and butt heads, and we see a softer, more gentle side of her brother as well. This issue brings us a lot in terms of story and driving the plot forward. We uncover a bit of lore behind the trees and eternal life, and it’s all around excellent world-building!

The Art and Letters:

Fico, Thiago, and Elisabetta take us on various adventures, each popping with its own charm and detail. The Asvalds are not used to warmer and arid climates, so seeing them take to the desert and the way their faces are drawn and style stands in contrast, showing their discomfort. We’re met with a lot of tender and heartfelt conversation in this issue, and this allows Elisabetta and Fico to add layers and detail to the characters we haven’t fully seen. We see vulnerability truly for the first time from our beloved Vikings. When we get to the sandy desert, the action kicks in as Thiago hits us with bright, bursting flames and an explosion of colors as Hassan twists the words around in desperation from Frey.

Final Thoughts:

Kill All Immortals II #2 is a beautifully narrated story that shows the Asvalds in a vulnerable state for the first time in this series. The action kicks off in a burst of flames, and we draw closer to the hidden secrets behind the immortal powers gifted to the few. Be sure to dive into this story immediately and pick up volume one!!
