CHEETAH AND CHESHIRE ROB THE JUSTICE LEAGUE #5: Sticky Situation

Published:

The gang has found themselves in a sticky situation as their attempt to rob the Justice League has gone awry. Cheetah has been captured, or is it all by design? Who can Cheetah, Cheshire, and her crew truly trust as they are on the cusp of achieving their mission?

Creative Team: Greg Rucka (WRITER), Nicola Scott (ART and COVER), Annette Kwok (COLORS and Cover), and Troy Peteri (LETTERS).

This comic is reviewed by both Megan from the Vigilante Vibes Podcast and Matt from the Hops “Geek” News podcast!

The Story:

Megan: We finally get to see the massive plan in action and I have to say, it was a brilliant plan. Cheetah and Cheshire thought through every bit and it went off better than could be expected. That is until you get to the very last page and see exactly what Klarion has been planning this whole time.

Greg Rucka made this an absolute banger of a fifth issue, from beginning to end. The plan was perfect, the powerhouses of DC characters involved at the Watchtower was exciting to see, and the team of criminals working together was a lot of fun!

Matt: Just when everything is going too well, who doesn’t love a good back stabbing? Klarion has betrayed the team, and now Black Adam and crew have the power bank, which takes this story down a windy left turn of unexpectedness and excitement. Greg is nailing the character interactions and really highlighting how Barbara Ann is not truly all evil and out for bad. The plan itself was genius and Greg is delivering on an excellent story keeping us on our toes not knowing what happens next.

The Art and Letters:

Megan: The artwork was fantastic, as it’s consistently been throughout the series. Nicola Scott, Annette Kwok, and Troy Peteri deserve all their flowers for bringing the exciting storyline to life with their artistic talents. Nicola Scott is an expert with working with so many characters, giving each one their own time to shine. Annette Kwok used her coloring talents to make the panels feel larger than life with bright vibrancy juxtaposing the darker tones. Troy Peteri brings the home run to home base with his wonderful lettering work, that brought a great sense of power to the words.

Matt: Scott and Kwok somehow turned exploding rats into something funny as Troy helps add the humor as Red Tornado is narrating their explosions. The sudden burst of blood against the cold steel of the Watchtower was a fun element added to the art. The subtle facial expressions Cheetah has and her demeanor of softness, is perhaps my favorite portions of this run. Typically, she is depicted as fierce and mean, but even when she is sharing a moment with Lian, there is a detail brought to her face that wipes all of those depictions from memory instantly.

Final Thoughts:

Megan: 9.5/10. With a fantastic plan, an excellent team, and a huge motivation, this ragtag team of villains is going farther than any criminal has before!

Matt:9.5/10. Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League #5 shows the plan in full motion and possible success. But as always, when dealing with villains, not everything is as it seems, and this could only be the beginning, as the gang may have bigger problems than the Justice League!

Overall Grade: 9.5/10
