Quick Stops Vol. 3 #4 – “Keeping up with the Joneses”

Published:

From Dark Horse Comics, and Secret Stash Press, Volume 3 of Quick Stops has been a trip down memory lane into the past of the Askewniverse. Issue 1 took us back to Chasing Amy. Then issue 2 sent us to the mall, with a beautiful nod to the late Shannen Doherty. The last issue was a hilarious nod to both Dante Hicks, and the late Alan Rickman. Now we’re going all the way back to Clerks with a sprinkle of a lot of other movies, and a happy ending (both kinds).

The Story for Quick Stops Vol. 3 #4

We kick off where all great stories begin: Quick Stops. Heather Jones brings home her new guy for a healthy and delicious meal from Moobys. He meets the family, which includes some very familiar sisters. During dinner we get the more detailed version behind the finger cuffs story from Chasing Amy. Just the kind of dinner talk you’d expect in the View Askewniverse. While we kick off in Quick Stops with a nod to the first Clerks, we wrap up there in the third one. With a perfect little bow.

The Art

The black and white art throughout this comic, not only gives the story a nod to the movie that started it all, Clerks, it also gives it an old school feel. The type of humor that is found in Quick Stops, makes a wholesome old school feel somehow make the stories even more hilarious. As do the detailed expressions on our characters’ faces. Primarily the thoroughly embarrassed Rick Derris. The art perfectly captured the ridiculous and hilarious story that fits so nicely into this Kevin Smith world.

Overall Grade: 9/10

Years ago I saw an interview with Kevin Smith where he referred to the characters he’s created as his toys. He loves pulling said toys out and playing with them. I’m so glad he decided to dust some of these characters off and play with them in the pages of this comic. I have loved every single issue in this volume 3 of Quick Stops, and I hope he continues to play with his toys.

Issue 4 perfectly sewed so many characters and storylines into a beautiful and severely inappropriate family dinner. To any and all Kevin Smith fans, grab this comic!! It’ll make you want to throw all his movies on and laugh all over again. Snoogans!

Volume 3 has brought us back to the movies in the View Askewniverse. However, before that there were volumes 1 and 2. If you want to check out Volume 1 it’s a 4 story anthology of our favorite Kevin Smith characters. Then Volume 2 gave us a dark, twisted, and sex filled origin story of everyone’s favorite golden cow, Mooby.
