The Story:
When a couple of galactic bounty hunters take on a job to find a missing member of a royal family, they get a little more than they bargained for.
The Writing:
Writer Curt Pires turns in a solid story with this first issue. The main characters and motivations are set up nicely and the overall “universe” is well fleshed out. While this issue started off strong and had a really exciting ending, the middle was just a little too exposition heavy for me and, if I’m being honest, too long winded. While the overall story is one I can see myself diving into, I really felt the length of this issue.
The Art:
The art in this issue is confusing. While on one hand the line work, inks, and colors all blend together nicely, but on the other hand it felt slightly boring. For a story set in a vast galactic setting, the “human” characters were hard to tell apart and the aliens were lacking in diversity, making this issue less exciting to look at than it should be.
Overall Grade: 6.5/10
While this issue wasn’t a fantastic start to the series, the opening and final pages did do enough to get me to come back for the next issue. The bones of a great story are here so, while I wasn’t thrilled with this installment, I’m excited to see where it goes next.
