Damage Control
Issue thirty-four focuses more on the newly formed alliance between Spider-Man and Damage Control. This new team-up shows some very promising change to the streets of New York City. Which could be a breath of fresh air to the citizens of the city.
This amazing issue starts off with Spider-Man in a losing situation as he is fighting Electro. One of the more educational issues from this series as Spider-Man narrates some pretty heavy yet informative facts about the human body and electricity. He does all of this while somehow finding the will to stay alive with the help of some technology that he has handy.
During this issue Spider-Man does take some time to have a heart to heart conversation with the leader of Damage Control, Agent Griffyn. During this conversation there is some serious information tossed around about Electro. But that ultimately gets washed out by the comedic humor between Spider-Man and Agent Griffyn. It has been some time since fans have gotten this level of humor from Spider-Man.
Within this issue the elephant of the past few issues is mentioned. If you read issue thirty-three you know that Spider-Man enlisted the help of a reporter to do some research on his newly introduced cousin, Cormac Crane. Well, the research results are in… Is Cormac a good guy or a bad guy…? You’re going to have to get this issue to find out! But do know that Peter Parker is still struggling with the appearance of Cormac and his sudden intrusion in his life. I’m not sure what it will take for Peter to completely accept it either…
The Writing
Joe Kelly adds more and more to this ASM series. I really enjoy the fact that he has introduced Damage Control into this series around the same time as the new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day. The addition of scientific educational facts from Spider-Man is a healthy reminder that he is a scientist, and loves it! Continuing to build on the “long lost cousin” story line is just as entertaining as the other plot lines within this story. This issue is very entertaining to read and keeps you guessing about what Spider-Man/Peter Parker will encounter next!
The Artwork
Ed McGuinness, Mark Farmer, Wade Von Grawbadger and Marcio Menyz give this issue some of the brightest art that I have ever seen! The pencil work is sharp and bold giving outstanding outlines making characters and subtle details easy to see. The coloration is AMAZING! The numerous splash pages will throw you back in your seat. The brightness and sheer POP that Spider-Man and Electro share with the gorgeous amounts of electricity raging through the pages is ironically, ELECTRIFYING!

Final Thoughts
Issue thirty-four brings together educational fact, team building, action and family investigation. All these elements are woven together so elegantly that it transforms this into one amazing page turning read. This series continues to challenge Peter Parker as a man and as Spider-Man. Struggling to keep personal and super hero separated is a never ending task for our friendly neighborhood hero. You will love all of the aspects (story and art) of this issue. Don’t make the mistake of missing out!
