The Story:

While Tony Stark has been distracted being a teacher, a villain from Iron Man’s past is wreaking havoc on behalf of A.I.M. But Tony is facing his most dreaded foe of all… business meetings!

The Writing:

Joshua Williamson continues his run of revisiting Iron Man’s rogues gallery in brilliant ways. This issue offers up multiple surprises while moving the story forward in a satisfying way. The way Williamson is choosing to hold off on unveiling the full mysteries being presented makes the reader race to the end of each issue and then beg for the next book. Joshua Williamson is doing a fantastic job of keeping the voice of Tony Stark feeling like the Tony Stark of old. This doesn’t feel like Robert Downey Jr., an issue I’ve had with writer in the past. This feels like Tony Stark and it is constantly refreshing each issue.

The Art:

Artist Carmen Carnero is back on this issue and it is wonderful to have her back! Along with colorist Nolan Woodard, this art team is an absolute powerhouse! The action and spectacle on display are top notch, the quiet emotional moments hit perfectly, and each page is a work of art. Plus, Whiplash has never looked more menacing! The surprise at the end of the issue is an incredible blast from the past that had me feeling like that little kid watching Iron Man the Animated Series again.

Overall Grade: 10/10

This series is a wonderful, nostalgic romp through Iron Man’s past foes that also builds a satisfying mystery for new readers! This is another home run for the incredible creative team!
