The Story
Matt – I am so excited to dive into the world of Batman Beyond and Static once more, and Evan brings out that level of excitement. He manages to weave three converging plot points together, whether it is the space mission they embark on to impress the Cooperative, Neo-Gotham’s big night, or Dakota City. At no point is it ever confusing, and in fact, it is clever to see how they tie in. There are several fun quips aimed at Terry, which Wes uses letters to capture the hilarity of them all. As someone who is a big fan of Batman Beyond, they capture the heart and soul with this first issue!
Megan – I cannot put into words my excitement when I heard that Static and Batman Beyond were joining forces on a new comic run! They are two characters I can never get enough of, and it looks like they’re in the best of hands with Evan Narcisse.
When you read Batman Static Beyond #1, you’re on the edge of your seat the entire time. There’s action, emotions, and more than one story happening that’s perfectly told next to each other. Seeing Static and Batman Beyond try their best to impress The Cooperative was as action-packed as you can imagine, but then you see Batman Beyond take on Neo-Gotham, and Static create a new technological revolution in Dakota city. Both powerhouses are put to the test in the thrilling new comic series that’s made me wait very anxiously for the next issue to drop.
The Art
Matt – Nikolas and Wil make the background setting absolutely pop out at you. The way they manage to color and bring space to life behind our characters allowed for the team’s suits to really come to the forefront. Even with Batman, who is primarily only black, he still jumps out against their details. Neo-Gotham is another incredibly well-detailed setting that feels just as much of a character as the characters we meet. This issue is beautifully done through the artwork, giving it so much life.
Megan – With an exciting storyline, you have to have art that matches the energy, and that’s exactly what, Nikolas Draper-Ivey, Wil Quintana, and Wes Abbott bring to the comic. With the gorgeous abstract backgrounds juxtaposing the wonderfully detailed characters, Nikolas makes each page even more beautiful than the last. Wil brings all the heat with his work in the colors, that practically makes the panels pop off the pages. Wes gives so much power to the words from the title characters, it creates a whole new depth for the story. All in all, the artists really outdid themselves with this comic.
Final Thoughts

Megan – 9.7/10. Batman Static Beyond #1 should be on any DC fan’s pull list. The storyline is exciting, the art is gorgeous, and you’ll stay on the edge of your seat until you reach the end of the comic.
