Amazing Spider-Man #15:
Things are heating up in the world of Spider-Man. Peter was punched into space during his battle with Hellgate and has been hunkering down ever since, trying to get strong before he faces off against him again, and all the while, he’s found out his new ally isn’t such an ally after all.
Instead of his mission to get stronger, he now has to save a group of former test subjects and help them all return to their homes. But what about Peter Parker? Will he ever return home?
Creative Team:
WRITER: Joe Kelly
Artist: Emilio Laiso
Color Artists: Marcio Menyz, Marte Gracia and Erick Arciniega
Letters: VC’s Joe Caramagna
Publisher: MARVEL COMICS
The Art:
It’s always fun to see and experience a new spider suit. This gold and black space magic we are witnessing could be something that has legs well beyond this story arc. But I’m really enjoying all the visuals and stylings of this new suit, including the lethal abilities it has.
Laiso also gets to experiments with Rocket, space aliens and more. It’s such a fun, change of pace from the usual Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man we know and love. You know, let’s get Spidey out of New York and take a little road trip.
The art really shines as the conflict picks up in the middle of the issue, where Spidey must defeat T’Klathian to save Rocket and erase his debt, so the group can all go home.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #14 – WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING NOW?
The Writing:
Kelly really continues to pen a fantastic run of ASM. The humor comes naturally, it’s fast-moving, exciting, all the while being incredibly heartfelt and true to what this character means to so many.
As Spidey ad his new suit bond, there are such cool similarities to Venom and his ability to talk directly to its host. I love these interactions, which always have such a fun blend of humor with substance.
This time, Glitch as we’ll call the alien being that’s part of Peter’s new suit, has a lot more dry humor and wit then we’ve seen from Venom and I’m excited to get to know him!
Overall Grade: 9.0/10
Peter’s sacrifice of strength to help another in this issue is classic Spider-Man and why the character is so beloved by millions. You can almost always count on Peter to do the right thing. Kelly and Laiso both embody this iconic truth in their art and penmanship in ASM #15.
