Last Man Standing

Issue twelve of Invincible Universe: Battle Beast is a very action packed no nonsense issue! You can expect some dialogue and narration, but nothing near to what readers of this series are accustomed to in previous issues. Now, do not let this minor lack of wording steer you away from issue twelve. The art work within this story is quite literally out of this world! And the storytelling that the art does within the panels and pages plenty makes up for the lack of scripted narration.

This story picks back up after Battle Beast and Conquest decide to come together as one team to fend off this alien species that is trying to overcome them. In doing so, Battle Beast lets a little bit of his guard down allowing himself to show a small shred of trust towards Conquest. But In true Conquest fashion, that small sliver of trust is thrown away right before Battle Beasts’ eyes. It is at that very moment that their fight against one another continues once more.

From here on out the issue is nothing more than fighting and devastation between the two characters. And the artwork from Ryan Ottley and Annalisa Leoni throughout this entire book is so beautiful including the large amounts of blood and gore. My favorite color is red, and this issue used plenty of it and in all kinds of shades too. The various tone settings page after page help to guide the flow of the fight without having dialogue or narration there to assist you in understanding the story context.

Fans of this series have seen some graphic fight scenes from this series, but nothing that compares to this! These two characters leave it all out on the dancefloor. The fight within this issue goes far beyond what readers have seen from this series. That is because this issue needed to “wow” the fans one last time… Battle Beast will make it’s return in the beginning of 2027.

Issue twelve is completely mind blowing! Two titans collide in this “mid-season finale.” Blood, guts and absolute devastation are what make this work of art so entertaining! This issue is “all gas, no brakes!” Battle Beast fans have to pick this issue up to get an idea of how issue thirteen will return come next year.
