Foes Unite
Issue eleven of Invincible Universe: Battle Beast brings readers right back to the action that concluded issue ten. Battle Beast has gotten the better of Conquest. Leaving his sword within the chest of him. For a quick review of issue ten, please follow the link below in the Link section.

It does not look very promising for Conquest as he has a sword protruding from his chest. Battle Beast thinks this battle is over and he is the victor. Till there is a boastful laughter coming from the man who should be dead. This battle is far from over! After a brief pause Conquest starts to fight back and round two begins.
During this continuation there is a bit of sub-story that takes place with King Salaka of Fanantia. It is during these panels that a life lesson is put on display. The King is under scrutiny for allowing Conquest to stay and be entertained in the hopes of an alliance between their two planets. The lesson presented is always seeing the good in people. King Salaka wants to believe that Conquest is pure of heart when he offers an alliance. But readers learn shortly after Conquest’s arrival, that is not his intention at all.
Conquest and Battle Beast continue their fierce battle up into the sky. Their devastating punches and kicks send them traveling to another part of the planet that presents new challenges for them both. Challenges that leave these two foes with no other choice but to put their battle on pause. An unforeseen partnership is about to take hold as these two face a host of various different creatures together. Making this seem as if this team up could last for a few issues.
The Writing
Robert Kirkman brings a very interesting continuation to this story. The start of this issue will leave readers questioning if Battle Beast is able to defeat Conquest. As the battle continues the scope of the plot changes to a surprising team up between these two iconic characters. But this will also leave a portion of the plot open for a potential “back-stabbing” from either of the characters.
The dialogue and narration for this issue are simplistic given the “fighting” nature of this story. There is still important storytelling that takes place amongst the fighting which continues to give readers the needed context throughout. The additional touch of the panels featuring King Salaka generate a much-needed sub-story for readers which is entertaining to see.
The Artwork
Ryan Ottley and Annalisa Leoni are the perfect duo for this series. Ryan provides the visual representation of Robert’s writing while Annalisa gives the “pop” that Ryan’s art deserves. This series continues to have amazing art that gives the reader an up-close feel to the fighting panels as well as the emotional factors portrayed by the King and his people. The number of details within this issue is spectacular! Punches, blood splatter, monsters and landscapes are so detailed that you can feel what is taking place within the panels.
The lettering from Rus Wooton is phenomenally done! The various styles he uses to portray the tone of the panels is spot on! Not to mention the perfect placement of dialogue and narration bubbles/boxes! This series would not be what it is without his precise lettering skills!
