Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the 5th issue of Star Wars: Doctor Aphra – Chaos Agent #5 from Marvel Comics!
Doctor Aphra has been forcibly recruited to help out the New Republic in an effort to avoid a prison sentence. It’s been one task after another, but each time she’s stepped up. Now she has a new task to tackle, and it’s one she might not be ready to tackle yet! Let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: Doctor Aphra – Chaos Agent #5 by Cherish Chen (Writer), Steven Cummings (Artist), Mike Atiyeh (Color Artist) & VC’s Joe Caramanga (Letterer) is a great next chapter in the series that adds a new layer to Doctor Aphra’s character.
The Story
Cherish Chen does an incredible job with the story in this issue with the depth added to Aphra’s character. She gets sent on a journey that isn’t one typical for her, she has to find her long lost sister! I really like the journey she goes on, and the banter she has back & forth with her sister.
You also are starting to see a change in Doctor Aphra as the series goes on. If you look at where the character has come from to where she currently is, the change has been subtle but is starting to emerge. Is it going to be a permanent one? Maybe. They say that leopards don’t change their spots, but maybe this time will be different. I hope so, because I think there’s a lot of potential in it.

The Artwork
Steven Cummings & Mike Atiyeh both brought their A game to the issue with the artwork. There’s such a dynamic variance to the colors throughout the panels that it really pops off the page. I also love how insanely detailed this issue is, because it feels like I should be looking in the background for Easter Eggs it;s that detailed! The artwork in a Marvel Star Wars comic is always great, but this just feels like it’s on a whole other level.
FINAL POINT: Cherish Chen takes Doctor Aphra in a direction that brings new depth to the character, and opens up a new path of possibilities for the character. Together with incredible artwork, this is an issue that Star Wars fans should absolutely not pass on!
Overall Grade: 8.5/10
