Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the 2nd issue of Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands #2 from Dark Horse Comics!

The first issue of this three issue miniseries saw Anakin & Obi-Wan encounter more than they bargained for on a mission to pay respects at a funeral. Now things turn to Luke Skywalker, some 30 years in the future. Reeling from the events of The Empire Strikes Back, Luke must face his fears again. So just can he overcome them? Let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: Tales From The Nightlands #2 by Cavan Scott (Writer), Vincenzo Riccardi (Artwork), Comicraft’s Tyler Smith & Jimmy Betancourt (Letters) is a visually spectacular issue with a very solid story to go along side it.

The Story

Cavan Scott continues his incredible storytelling with this issue that helps it be a page turner right to the end. He starts things out with an incredible vision of Luke continuing to struggle with the revelation that Darth Vader is his father. It’s a tremendous opening to the issue, because it’s a moment we never really got to see on the big screen.

From there it turns to a fantastic tale of journey, discovery & confronting the truth. It’s a great story that is sure to appeal to every Star Wars fan. I particularly enjoyed the moments with Luke on Rabnir with a certain someone. I won’t spoil it, but it’s sure to pull at your heartstrings a little bit.

The Artwork

Vincenzo Riccardi does an incredible job in this issue, with some artwork that is totally unlike anything I’ve ever seen before in a comic book. I really like the use of colors and the way it’s all presented. It does NOT look any other Star Wars comic on the shelves currently in print.

Overall Grade: 9.0/10

FINAL POINT: The artwork in this issue is simply spectacular, and the story is another tremendous one from Cavan Scott. If you want a heartfelt story with a little bit of suspense, then this is the issue for you!
