Episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, air Sunday nights on AMC and AMC+. Episode 6 just dropped, and we now have only one episode left in season 3. Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) are still “enjoying” their vacation in Spain. As Daryl continues sightseeing, Carol is enjoying the local wine.
WARNING: There are spoilers for previous episodes, however, Season 3 Episode 6 is spoiler free.

Last Seen on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
On the last episode ‘Limbo’ we saw Daryl go off on a side quest, and inadvertently free an eyeball loving iguana. As well as a town full of people being victimized by water stealing bandits. This side quest was part of his journey to find Justina. It was believed she sacrificed herself to El Alcazar. Once that was revealed to be fiction, Daryl went after her captors. While at first reluctant to do so, Carol managed to convince him.
Back at Solaz Del Mar Carol helps Antonio care for his son, who was on the brink of death when Justina was kidnapped. As, Fede, the leader of this community’s true colors begin to shine, he also becomes more suspicious of these new American visitors. He was told Daryl was working on the boat for their voyage home. Not heading to El Alcazar to free Justina and ruin their alliance with them. So Fede sends someone to make sure Daryl is doing as Carol claims.

“Contrabando” or Smuggling
As Daryl continues on his mission through Spain, Paz catches up with him. She has a rescue mission of her own: another captor who is also the princess at El Alcazar. Paz is hopeful she still has some local friends who can help them out.
Meanwhile back “home” nothing seems safe anymore. As Fede is becoming more and more sketchy, Carol finally gets some insight into Antonio’s past, and his feud with Fede. She hasn’t hid her feelings for Antonio well, but it’s clear Antonio can’t move forward until he faces his past. A past he’s now forced to face.

The Past Always Catches Up
I was certain I had figured out why there was so much tension between Antonio and Fede. I was incredibly happy to be pleasantly surprised at how wrong I was. The truth wasn’t overly shocking, but it made complete sense, and the timing made it all the more fascinating. The best storylines are the ones that give us what we want, but not how we expect it.
Another past we can’t ever seem to escape is royalty. Whether it’s the Governor of Woodbury, the Governor of the Commonwealth, or the King of El Alcazar. While it seems ridiculous to have any sort of royalty over a decade into a zombie apocalypse, it also makes complete sense. No matter the world there will always be haves and have nots, and the have nots will never give up when there’s nothing to lose. I have loved how they’ve integrated such culture, royalty, and absolutely beautiful views of a zombie ridden Spain, this season. Episode 6 really highlighted all that.
Overall Grade: 7.5/10
As we wrap up this episode not in the best place for either of our main characters, it’s clear that Daryl won’t stop fighting to survive, and Carol suddenly won’t stop fighting to live. Get your local wine, and can of hot dogs ready, as now we await the finale for season 3 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
