The Story:
Gamora, Darkhawk, and Captain Marvel team up to investigate the rumors of the Skrull queen and prophet, Veranke’s, return from the dead in the months leading up to the events of Imperial. The Super-Skrull is drawn into this scheme that could change the face of the Galactic Marvel landscape forever.
The Writing:
Dan Abnett and Jonathan Hickman crafted an excellent story that perfectly leads the reader into the conclusion of the series while addressing events that led up to it’s beginning. The banter between the protagonists and the intrigue of the situation was perfectly executed. Having Abnett on this issue felt like the obvious choice since he is synonymous with the Guardians of the Galaxy and their universe of characters. He brought a respect for the past in this issue that made it feel like it fit in to the overall story better than most comic book event tie-ins.

The Art:
The whole art team brought their A-game to this issue. The action was well choreographed and the tension of confrontations popped right off the page. What a treat it was to see Darkhawk in this issue, he’s a character that has never gotten enough love and this team did him justice. Each page was great but the final pages, perfection. The minimalist cover that these issues have been sporting have been great for the entire event and this one was no exception, excellent cover as always!
Overall Grade: 10/10
What a fantastic issue to send us racing into the finale of Imperial! Great history and character dynamics mixed with a phenomenal art team made this one another must read!
