Where Does The Umbrella Academy Go From Here?
Character by character we get to go around and see how they have responded to the Sparrow takeover. In classic Umbrella Academy form, each team member is dealing with their defeat in theory own special way. Some fight back from the shadows. Others find comfort in groups and then some seek solitary. It really is a deep dive into all of the character archetypes represented.
In Case You Missed It: The Umbrella Academy: Plan B #2 – Fearless in Their Actions
It would seem that such a round robin of character insight would drag the pace a bit, but it’s quite the opposite. The dialogue flows with natural progression. The moments in time are engaging and pieces of information are revealed. Nothing goes without purpose. It’s fascinating. With each step, there’s a curiosity that lights your way to the next panel and then the next page.

The Sparrows Hold Sway Over The Umbrella Academy
Gerard Way doesn’t hesitate to push the fascism of the Sparrows to the forefront of who they are. In a moment on a talk show, they show how powerful they are through influence. They can ruin you without ever lifting a violent hand and everyone will fall in line with their cruel methods out of fear.
The Visuals of The Umbrella Academy: Plan B
Artwork always helps direct the story. In issue #3 it’s paramount, especially in Luther’s telepathic conversation with his hero, St. Zero. Not only that, but Kraken’s makeshift “jail” brings an eclectic collection of characters together. It’s impressive that none of them gets lost in the crowd. Your eyes can’t help but scan the panels, examining the different colors and shapes. This issue truly feels like a visual candy store!
Overall Grade 9/10
The Umbrella Academy: Plan B #3 continues to dive into the mental ramifications of heroes losing. There are so many forces working in the background that plot lines and character arcs are plentiful. There’s something here for everyone. Put that emotional element against artwork that enhances it all and you’ve got a great comic book!
