The Umbrella Academy: Plan B is Authoritarianism
The secret secondary team of Sparrows have defeated the originals and have put a choke hold on the city. This team is short and to the point. No negotiating, no quarter. Crime is PUNISHED. The issue opens with Hargreaves building the caretaker, but immediately moves to present day. This is where the new Sparrows show their brutality. They’re playing a game of soccer with the decapitated head of a criminal. Without any remorse, or at least for some of them.
The Many Moving Parts of The Umbrella Academy
From there we meet a gentlemen striking similar to Hargreaves selling solutions to the President. Then we get a look into what the original team is up to. Finally we see a glimpse of what may be the real villain in this new world!

The Dynamic Story of The Umbrella Academy: Plan B
This issue was a wonderful read from cover to cover. The pace moved steadily and with purpose. Characters get fleshed out and conflicts are on the rise. The Sparrows, society, he government, and some extra dimensional force are all on a collision course.

The new, powerful team of Sparrows take a backseat for most of the issue. This gives way to the forces working in opposition to them. The President sees them as a dangerous, divisive force, but benefits from the lower crime rates and economy boosts. The original Sparrows are shattered. Some lock themselves away from the problem. Some look for hope. While some ready themselves for war. There are so many fascinating dynamics that make this issue intriguing.
Art & Style in The Umbrella Academy: Plan B
The artwork is amazing as always. Gabriel Ba creates a fantastical and whimsical world full of mystery and danger. The cartoonist nature of the designs work well with the hard lines and psychedelic elements to create a unique world. Each panel gives something for the eye to search for, immersing the reader into the environment.
The colors by Dave Stewart bring it all to life. The noir style lighting gives a classic feel, and heightens the unknown mystery if the world. I always feel like I should be looking for something hiding in the dark shadows.
Overall Grade 9.5/10
I haven’t been an avid reader of The Umbrella Academy. I did watch the series which I did enjoy. Picking up with the Plan B series has been a blast so far. I love this world that Gerard and Gabriel have created as well as the deeply flawed characters. Issue 2 really lays a foundation for the story to develop going forward. It’s like a chess board and the pieces are being placed in strategic positions. It’s very fascinating and the artwork makes it even more captivating. This is one I’ll continue to invest my time in!
