The world of Ghost Machine at Image Comics introduced the Rocketfellers last Thanksgiving. A family from the future, hiding in the past. Recently Dad finally came clean about why they had to drop everything and learn to live in the primitive year of 2025. Now we’re seeing exactly how it all went down, and why.

The Story for The Rocketfellers #9
We kick off with another flashback from the future. Only this issue we stay in the future. The project Roland (aka Dad) has been working on for the past decade experienced a hiccup that made him question the ethics behind it all. However, his sudden moral realization is not so easily accepted by others. Nor by himself. As we get a glimpse more so into the events leading up to Issue #1 and their reason for hiding in the past, we see Roland make some of his own questionable decisions. He really just wants to put family first.

The Art
The future, the explosions, the science, the colors… there is so much to rave about in this issue. The art is absolutely perfectly detailed and gorgeous throughout. It also gets a bit creepy at times.
Roland was the main character of this issue, and he went on a roller coaster of emotions. Whether he was terrified, angry, or relieved, every emotion was perfectly shown on his face, making each scene that much more impactful.

Overall Grade: 9/10
The Rocketfellers has been such a fun comic from the get go. A family just trying to raise their kids in a world hundreds of years before they were born. Their struggles are relatable, and also completely out there at the same time. However, this issue really went places we haven’t seen before, all to further explain how, and why, the Rocketfellers ended up in 2025.
The cherry on top was the little nod to the umbrella all these amazing comics fall under. Aren’t we all just ghosts in the machine?
