The Story
Here we are at the end of the Thunder War, and its ending exceeded my extremely high expectations. But what else can you expect when Murewa Ayodele is behind the story? After Eternity chose Storm as her host, Hadad used the powers of the Black Winter to spread chaos across the universe.
This caused the Storm Gods to choose sides, and most chose to side with Hadad. Except for two, Storm and Beta Ray Bill. This was what created the start of the electrifying Thunder War.
While the Thunder War is in full swing, which is noticed by everyone on Earth, Eternity confronted his father, The One Above All, to save the universe against the hands of Hadad. Eternity says Hadad has reached Earth, and plans to destroy it, thus killing Eternity and his twin sister Infinity.
The One Above All is the only one who can help in Eternity’s eyes, but what happens when his father isn’t as easy to bargain with as Eternity hoped?
After so much build up of the Thunder War, I am very satisfied with how it ended. There was a whole new level of strength shown in Storm that we haven’t seen before, but was not surprising given it being Ororo Munroe we’re talking about.
Storm will do whatever needs to be done to save those she loves and protect her planet, but seeing her stand up for herself, her choice, and her autonomy was something awe inspiring. Yet again, Murewa Ayodele brings whole new depths to who Ororo Munroe is down to her core. Just when you think Storm can’t possibly get any better as a character, you’re pleasantly proven wrong.
The Art
Along with the incredible story writing, the artwork is simply out of this world. That may be a play on words, but there’s no other way to describe it. Mario Santoro can capture the essence of the Thunder War with his artistic abilities, making the comic feel larger than life.
With the power of each god flowing through the pages, Santoro brings so much heat to each panel. Handling the colors of Storm #12 is Fer Sifuentes-Sujo, who has been nothing but consistent in his high-quality work on the comic run. Making each page pop, it’s hard not to keep your eyes glued to each page with his use of contrasting colors and electrifying vibrancy.
Overall Grade – 10/10
There is no one else who should be writing Storm rather than Murewa Ayodele. This is proven over and over again with each issue. If you’re an Ororo Munroe fan at all, I urge you to read Storm because the heights Ayodele is taking our favorite Storm God is astonishing.
