With the action, fun characters, and western charm, this issue was a full on good time. It had the levity of a Saturday morning cartoon, but also rides a serious tone under that cartoon exterior. Moo Marshal has a classic motivation. His teacher, his mentor is missing and may be in danger. The massive amount of respect he has for her pushes him into Moo Mesa, where something bigger just happens to be at play. The townsfolk are wild, wacky, and larger than life. The Mayor is a walking advertisement for a bad guy. Deputy Terrorbull is a great antagonist to Marshall. So many things in this issue work really well in tandem to tell a great story.

The Art of the C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa

The artwork is as close to cartoon accurate as you can get. The great thing is that they can add a little darker tone thanks to the comic medium. The action is great, Moo Marshall looks fantastic, and so do the antagonists! Gedeon and Cabrera truly capture the world of the Wild West through beautiful imagery and a fantastic color palette. They nailed this setting so well and the characters take on a life of their own!

Overall Grade 9/10

The Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa are starting strong! Moo Marshall is built as the perfect hero of this story, and the rest of the Boys get into the action later in the book. His relationship with Mary Quine is a strong one that plays on a relatable subject to us all. The Father figure, the mother, the teacher, and the coach are all roles that fit that dynamic and create a strong bond. Where we go next is all part of the mystery, and I can’t wait to see it unfold!
