Love is in the Air

After the thwarted Mu’Tant attack, the ThunderCats have taken Scail prisoner, which infuriates his father Slythe. As the Mu’Tant’s regroup and plan out their next attack, the Cats are a bit distracted. The love triangle between Bengali, Tygra, and Cheetara really heats up, leading to a fight between Tygra and Bengali. However, the fight is not finished as the Knights of Thundera need to spring into action against the Mu’Tant advance. But will all the distractions leave an opening for Slythe’s revenge?

A New Battle Kicks Off

ThunderCats #18 really brings us into the emotional side of the story. Obviously, there is the love triangle, but that is flanked by Panthero’s battle within himself over his injuries. Also, Slythe’s revenge, how Apex fits in, and the general disfunctions that have been building up in the ThunderCats camp since Lion-O’s disappearance. Declan Shalvey is masterfully bringing all these threads to the forefront, while also tying them together in a nice concise package. The layers of this story really pull the reader in and don’t let you go.

The art in this issue is stupendous and really encapsulates the world perfectly. The art team really crushes every aspect of the art. The character designs are fantastic, the action is portrayed impeccably, and the background brings Third Earth to life.
