The Story
The Book of Iron Fist has said that every Iron Fist will die at the age of 33, and that was known as factual to Danny Rand. However, what if this prophecy wasn’t true?
What if Danny was able to come back and prove all he’s been taught was a lie? He is the Immortal Iron Fist, after all. Danny Rand comes back, with his mission in hand; to get his vengeance.
Within the pages of The Undead Iron Fist #1, we go back and forth to Danny’s fight against a mystical dragon, and his current fight against the Wraithlins that have possessed innocent citizens.
While onlookers are quick to say that Danny is the villain of this battle, he doesn’t care as he sticks to his mission. Even when the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man gets involved, Danny stays headstrong in what he’s doing.
More and more Wraithlins in the bodies of the people of New York attack, Danny stands his ground and fights as the living weapon, the Iron Fist.
The Writing
I should’ve known when I heard that Jason Loo would be behind The Undead Iron Fist, that it would be high in quality. With so much action, along with the horror aspect of the comic, Jason Loo just doesn’t miss with this one. The Undead Iron Fist #1 keeps the energy high throughout the comic, and keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. By the end of the read, I wanted so much more. Needless to say, I’ll be anxiously waiting for the second issue.
The Art
The artists of The Undead Iron Fist #1 understood the assignment, and kept the art as spectacular as the storyline. Fran Galán brought the horror energy to life with his spine chilling artwork, making the Wraithlins something nightmares are made of. Alongside Galán is Jim Campbell, who handles the colors. Campbell brought so much depth to the pages of the comic with his use of powerful colors, and making the signature Iron Fist yellow the standout on most pages.
Travis Lanham is the letterer of The Undead Iron Fist #1, and does a fantastic job keeping the tone flowing throughout the comic. You can feel the echos in the words spoken, along with the mysterious energy throughout the comic thanks to Lanham.
Overall Grade – 10/10
This comic was made for the Iron Fist fans, and any fan would love The Undead Iron Fist. Jason Loo continues the exciting story of the living weapon, and brings us all for the ride with him.
