Aquaman is forced to deal with the aftermath and pick up the pieces as he says goodbye to his beloved wife, Mera. He also now must navigate his newfound powers along with his now adult daughter, Andrina. The tides must continue to flow, and heavy is the crown.

Creative Team:
Jeremy Adams (WRITER), John TIMMS (ART and COVER), Rex Lokus (COLORS), and Dave Sharpe (LETTERS).
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Story:
Jeremy kicks off the next big arc, and he will take Aquaman in quite a shocking and yet satisfying fashion. Arthur has changed, and while we are not sure exactly how, Jeremy gives us a bit of a taste as he no sells a massive hit from Superman and is able to rescue the Justice League.
If you are a long time fan of the character like I am, this may go down as one of the best moments in Aquaman’s history and is truly showcasing what Arthur can become.
This issue wraps up with a bit of surprising twist that I was not ready for and just goes to show how much depth there is here with the story.
The Art and Lettering:
Timms and Lokus seem to elevate their artwork to match the monumental moment in this issue. The opening sequence is haunting and beautiful, and is able to bring out all types of emotions as we see Mera’s funeral and the somber gathering.
From there, the panels are split and lead to a grand one-shot of Aquaman tanking a punch by Superman that lands the reaction they were going for in this moment. The team takes us down memory lane as Arthur sheds his past, and we are just in awe of how beautifully detailed every drop of water and piece of scenery is in this book.
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
Aquaman #9 kicks off the next big arc for Arthur and his team, but does not do so without its fair share of epic moments and a shocking ending. Safe to say this book has swept me off my feet.
