The Story:

Grigori, the killer KGB agent has been sent to Hawkins, Indiana on a top secret mission to make sure that the USSR’s plans come to fruition. Learn how the Soviet thug went from the mean streets of Russia to the American Midwest!

The Writing:

This was a really bold issue to take on. Thankfully, Fridolfs handled this largely silent character well. It was interesting seeing Grigori’s back story and it did do quite a bit to flesh out his character. Showing this as a fish out of water story was a lot of fun.

Grigori was appropriately menacing and intense throughout this issue. While I wasn’t overly excited to see this story play out at first, I was won over by Fridolfs excellently paced writing.

The Art:

The art team did a wonderful job of placing this story within the visual language of the show. Grigori looked great, and the interactions with the citizens of Hawkins were a great source of humor in a, relatively, dark story.

The cover is also a fantastic homage to The Terminator and it’s incredibly fitting for the character.

Overall Grade: 8.5/10

While I appreciate the big swing of centering a story around this intense character, I feel like there just wasn’t quite enough there for an entire issue. While this was in no way a bad story, when compared to the first two issues in this series, this is a slight step down.

I can and will still highly recommend this one to any Stranger Things fan that is looking for a quick fix while waiting on season 5.
