EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT #1: Countdown to Jump

Published:

Event Horizon and its crew are equipped with a revolutionary gravity drive and are preparing to make a jump. The mission is straightforward, or so the crew thinks, as members of their crew hold secrets and may be in for more than they think as they face the threshold of Hell.

The Story:

I Know comic fans may largely know Christian for his artistic talents but, he excels at story telling and setting the stage for something larger to come anytime he writes. Event Horizon is no different as Christian takes us through each team member over a short course of time as they prepare to launch and each character has details buried within that will come to play later.

He builds a slow-burning, unsettling feeling that slowly builds throughout this issue. As he weaves the plot points together, Christian slips in these jump scares that add to that ever-growing awful feeling building in our stomachs. I was captivated from the start and cannot wait to see what this story holds.

The Art:

Tristan and Pip help create these unsettling and jump scare sequences that we are met with inside this issue. The art sets the tone and teases the horrors to come early on this issue with a blood-soaked panel that is sure to create some gasps. The details are dark, and the background allows for the colors and the details of our characters to pop out, as well as the things that lie in the dark. This is how you draw and color a horror book to hammer home these feelings, and the duo nail it.

Final Thoughts:

Event Horizon: Dark Descents #1 creates a sense of danger and unease that builds in the pit of our stomachs and never quite leaves. Fans of this franchise will want to check this out and move it to the top of their pull list without a doubt!
