Time to Nukem

After the Planeteers escape with the help of Captain Planet, Lucian Plunder must think outside the box. His answer is to hire the mercenary Duke Nukem and task him with getting the rings by any means necessary. Duke gets his troops together and gets on the move to accomplish this goal.

Meanwhile, Captain Planet finishes getting the Planeteers to safety and starts to explain their powers to them. Unfortunately, Captain Planet can’t stick around because his powers have been diminished due to the battle and Earth’s pollution. He leaves Kwame in charge, which irritates Wheeler and reveals the first crack in the team.

An Exhausted Captain

This issue does a marvelous job of continuing to introduce us to the team, well also moving the story forward. David Pepose really taps into the humanity of the team and the reality of throwing strangers together with all the challenges that it brings. At the same time, he shows the beginning of the character arcs for some of the Planeteers. Pepose as always does amazing at showing the real human drama within the characters he writes.

The art in this issue is awesome and really brings the Captain Planet world to life. Eman Casallos does a wonderful job with the art specifically the character designs. Casallos’ take on Duke Nukem is fantastic and really encapsulates the character. Jorge Sutil does an amazing job with the color selections, which really draw your eyes to the art.
