The Great Decision
Deep in the Wyrdweb lies the Sylken Akropolis and this is where Slade finds his dad, The Jim. However, his dad is not actually alive and his concise has just been preserved by the Weavers. Jim explains to Slade that his amulet is broken and missing a piece, so it makes its power unstable which can be dangerous. He delivers an offer to Slade as well, as the Weavers will allow Slade to stay there with his dad and train. Although Slade wants to stay, he chooses to go save his brother instead.
By the time Slade gets to the yard, the bugs have already started their attack on Sydney, and it doesn’t look good for him. As Slade joins the fight, he is joined by Wysta who helps Slade in his battle. Wardaddy Qurim witnesses Slade enter the battle with his new armor and weapon, which makes him proclaim the Worldstomper has returned. With this revelation the Beetle Clans now fight on Slade’s side. But even with allies, will this be enough to save his brother?
Stay Away From the Woods
Bug Wars #6 is a fitting conclusion to the first arc of this epic story. Jason Aaron really delivers the action with the War of the Yard. The back-and-forth nature of the battle which at times feels like our hero won’t succeed really makes for some great edge of your seat moments. Couple that with a tremendous tease at the end of the issue that sets up the follow up arc perfectly and you have a fantastic finish.
The art in this issue continues the streak of awesome art that the readers have become accustomed to in this series. Mahmud Asrar brings the war to life with some of the best and brutal fighting scenes. Couple that with the attention of detail and character design and the art really hits a homerun here. Matt Wilson‘s selection of colours enhances the visual impact of the artwork and adds a dynamic quality to the depiction of violence.
