The Story:

Sam is playing with a lot of characters who I don’t have a ton of familiarity with admittedly but, I think that is what is going to continue to drive this story forward and make it work. Including this new rag tag team continues to feel fresh and forcing Bucky into a leadership role and out of his comfort zone is a highlight that continues to give. Sam is writing Namor with a lot of angst and it will be interesting to see how he blends in as the story goes on because he is not one to listen or take commands.

The clone Illuminati are both menacing with the powers they wield and very Frat bro in the way they talk. Tony calling everyone bro almost made you want to side with them in a weird and complex way. The introduction of Clea got a pop from me as she is someone we don’t spend time with, and seeing her wield magic was a well-done plot point. Somehow, Joe manages to capture the tone of the Frat Illuminati through his lettering, giving them a voice.

The Art:

Ton and Rain artistically bring a lot to the table. In the battle, it’s a blink and miss it moment, but it looks as though Bucky’s arm even turns into a blade. In terms of bringing Clone Reed to life, they do a grotesque job making him look like clay left in the hot sun and melting apart. The fight sequences were drawn smoothly, and the sizing and contrasts throughout the panels flow together. In the background of the settings this issue takes us to a few places each drawn and colored with their own character completing the tone of this isssue.

Final Thoughts:

The New Avengers #2 brings in a new era of heroes who may or may not be ready for the task, but, giving fans plenty to be excited for.

Overall Grade: 9/10
