A Holding Cell in the Zoo

The turtles realize they have been locked up in a cage at the Bronx Zoo. Raph finds himself comfortable with the environment, but not his cell mates. It is at this time that the turtles find out Donnie is also in the cage with them. They have a joyous reunion, until they inevitably fall apart into their old ways. But Donnie tells them to save it as their trial starts tomorrow.

The next day the trial of the turtles begins with D.A Hale giving an eloquent opening statement condemning the turtles as a menace to the city. It is now the turtles’ turn to give an opening statement, but they have no attorney. So, Donnie decides he’s representing himself and his brothers, and to say that doesn’t go well is an understatement. As the turtle’s fate appears to be sealed, it looks like there is some help on the way.

Guilty Until Proven Guilty

This issue takes a slower, more storytelling approach than the last few issues. Bringing the reader into the internal turmoil, as well as the conspiracy against our heroes in a half shell. Jason Aaron does a great job of making us feel the struggle the turtles are going through personally, as well as with the system that is stacked against them. He also gives us some hope, as he teases that some reinforcements are on the way.

The art in this issue is fantastic and really continues to stand out. Juan Ferreyra does an excellent job of bringing the world to life and showcasing exactly what is going on in the story. The character designs are immaculate, and the scenery really catches the reader’s eye. The color choices really bring out the emotion in the story as well.

Final Thoughts

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #10 is an excellent piece of storytelling that is laying the groundwork of where the series is headed. What this issue lacks in pure action, it picks up in an emotional roller coaster of a ride. This series is a must read and should be on your Pull List.

Overall Grade: 9/10
