The Story and Writing

After the new villain, Desparo, attacked Harley, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman, they were separated from each other with no way to communicate. Harley ended up in some kind of cage, keeping her hostage. Poison Ivy was transported to an unknown area, leaving her to search for answers. Catwoman was now considered Desparo’s new “pet”, which is all kinds of creepy. Harley is able to use her talents to escape her enclosure and end up back in the nightclub with all the partygoers. Of course, that won’t sit well with Desparo’s super-soldiers, so they call for an attack.

With help from her little friend, she’s able to escape and go search for her friends. Poison Ivy, who is investigating for answers, realizes that this isn’t a nightclub, but an engine. It’s not just any engine, but an engine that uses both human and alien technology that’s fueled by sacrifices. Once Poison Ivy finds these answers, Desparo drops the bomb that they’re going on a cosmic mission and prepares for lift off.

Leah Williams continues this exciting story with three iconic characters as the protagonists, and expertly keeps the energy as high as the other issues. In Gotham City Sirens: Unfit to Orbit #3, we see each other the Sirens doing their part after being split up. I think it shows just how powerful these characters are on their own in the third issue, as they investigate, looks for ways out, and manage to get themselves out of tough spots.

The Art

The quality of the artwork in Gotham City Sirens: Unfit to Orbit continues to impress. With Haining as the artist, they bring so much heat to the comic with their work in the details and drawings of the characters. I think Haining’s work really was on full display when we saw Harley escape her enclosure in a beautiful acrobatic style that can only come from Harley. Along with Haining, Ivan Plascencia and Hi-Fi handle the colors, and give the entire comic a vibrant and gorgeous nightclub vibe. The colorists use juxtaposing colors that make each page look like a work of art, which fits so well in this comic run.

Final Thoughts

Gotham City Sirens: Unfit to Orbit feels so underrated to me. There’s such a solid story with fantastic characters thanks to Leah Williams. I can’t wait to see what’s to come in the next issue!
