The Story and Writing
Continuing the exciting first issue of Gotham City Sirens: Unfit to Orbit, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy have arrived to the conduit, only to find out that it’s a child. Of course, this isn’t what they expected it to be when Catwoman said she wanted to steal it, so now they’re not sure how to proceed. Harley, never one to form a plan before acting, lets the child out of his cell.
Immediately after letting this child have his freedom, the Sirens find out that it was all a trap set up by an unhinged warlord named Desparo. The Sirens, not knowing who this villain is, doesn’t realize what a threat he is. Desparo says the women will be serving him indefinitely as his slaves, and from where the Sirens are standing, there doesn’t seem like there’s a way to say no to him.
Leah Williams, who is the writer of Gotham City Sirens: Unfit to Orbit #2, continues the story with a bang. I thought the first issue of the comic series was a very strong start, but Williams has made it obvious that she plans on keeping this high energy consistently. The second installment does a fantastic job showing how high the stakes are, and showing just how big of a threat Desparo really is. To say I’m excited to see where Williams goes with this story would be an understatement.
The Art
There are so many good things to say about the art of the comic, it’s hard to nail down just one thing. Haining, the art of Gotham City Sirens: Unfit to Orbit #2, brought so much heat to each page, especially when it has to do with the battle between the Sirens and Desparo. Joining Haining is Alex Guimarães on the colors, who made each page stick out even more than the last. With using so many vibrant colors, Guimarães gives each panel an interesting nightclub vibe. All in all, the artists really nailed the artwork.
Final Thoughts
I’m so glad the second issue of Gotham City Sirens: Unfit to Orbit has the same quality and energy as the first issue. Leah Williams knows what she’s doing with this run as she creates a highly energized thrill ride with our favorite characters.
Overall Grade – 9.2/10
