The Story

Liminal has been a problem for Illyana and continues to be a problem, even though Cal Isaacs sealed him inside his own body. Cal did this to end the threat of Liminal’s invasion, but ended up going into a coma because of it.

Dani Moonstar did the only thing she could have done, and that’s to take Cal to the Society of the Eternal Dawn. Dani taking Cal to the Society means Illyana was left behind, but that won’t stop her from searching for her two friends.

Illyana shows up at The Society of the Eternal Dawn just as Dani is arriving and attacks her friend to the ground. She was worried because she hasn’t been able to sense the tracking spell she put on Cal, which Dani blames on the Society’s defenses.

Dani takes Illyana to see Cal, as she knows the X-Men will just break into The Society anyways. Illyana is told that while Cal is awake, something is wrong. One Illyana goes into the room, she sees exactly what’s wrong. She’s staring right at Liminal.

Ashley Allen continues the exciting storyline of Liminal and Illyana, with even more help from Dani Moonstar. Having Illyana and dani work together through this never ending Liminal problem is so enjoyable to read. It’s nice to see Illyana have someone to lean on, especially in this constant battle.

Additionally, I really enjoyed seeing more about The Society of the Eternal Dawn, and what they’re all about. Understandably so, Illyana is untrusting of them, especially The Embodiment. By the end of the comic, it’s hard to disagree with Illyana’s distrust. I’m really interested to see where Allen goes with this!

The Art

The artists of Magik #7 expertly brought the creepiness to the comic that comes with Illyana, especially when Darkchild is around. Germán Peralta did an outstanding job making Cal as horrifying as if he was in a horror film, which really added to the energy of the comic. Arthur Hesli, who is the colorist of Magik #7, made each page eye-popping with his use of contrasting and vibrant colors.

In Magik #7, we got some really great looks at Darkchild, which I really appreciated. Along with that, we’re treated to come great action sequences that were beautifully illustrated by the creative team. All in all, the artists continue to impress!

Final Thoughts

Ashley Allen does a fantastic job with Illyana, and continues an exciting storyline with her, Dani Moonstar, and Cal Isaacs in Magik #7.

Overall Grade – 8.1/10
