The Aftermath of G-Day

The story takes place in the now destroyed Pacific Northwest, more specifically what used to be known as Seattle, but now called the Deadzone. Godzilla and the other Kaiju destroyed this area and made it pretty much uninhabitable or so most people thought. Because in the ruins groups of wanderers would roam the Deadzone. These unfortunate souls lived a hard life and faced many challenges including mutation.

Through all of this there are whispers and rumors of a “Monster Man” who travels the Deadzone hunting Kaiju. This “Monster Man” is even rumored to be part man, part Godzilla. We find out that the rumors and innuendo are true, and such a mutant man does exist, and it is that man that will take us on an adventure through the Deadzone.

Welcome to the Deadzone

Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone #1 is a different kind of Kaiju story, told from a completely different perspective than we usually get in this genre. Ethan Parker & Griffen Sheridan do an amazing job of building this dystopian world with some very interesting and unique characters. Being that this story is so unique and uncharted they really have a lot of opportunities to be as creative as possible, and they definitely take advantage of that.

The art in this book is wonderful and really brings the Deadzone to life. Pablo Tunica does an excellent job of showing the reader exactly what the Deadzone is and the desolation its inhabitants live in. Speaking of inhabitants, the character designs in this book are super cool and give this world a unique feeling. Lastly, the design of the few Kaiju we get to see are completely original and very cool.
