Eternity has grown desperate. He abducts a powerful cosmic entity and hides them in the Storm Sanctuary, Storm’s floating home in Atlanta. What is the identity of this cosmic entity? How will this act complicate the ongoing investigation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation into Storm? Find out in this next chapter of the goddess’ saga!“(Credit: Marvel)

The Story

When we last left Storm, she was being interrogated by the FBI. They question her for crimes she committed during the X-ManHunt event. Storm uses her one phone call to contact her lawyer, who happens to be Jen Walters, AKA SheHulk. Unfortunately, she isn’t able to get in touch with Jen. Unbeknownst to Storm, Jen is actually at the Storm Sanctuary participating in the tournament. The tournament, which is held by Maggott is a battle of the strengths between the heavy hitters of the world. Storm has no idea is taking place at her sanctuary.

Storm has been detained by the FBI, and they’re not giving up on finding the truth. Since Storm is immune to telepathy, the FBI finds other ways to find out if she’s telling the truth or not. While Storm is truthful, it seems she’s the only one. There has been a secret plan happening which explains exactly why Storm has been detained. It all has to do with the Storm Sanctuary. The FBI is after some kind of weapon they believe Storm has. The problem is that Storm isn’t the one to blame, but the entity that’s possessed her is.

The Writing

I really enjoyed The Sinister Schemes of the Stars and Stripes storyline. It showed Storm outside of her comfort zone, and she still was the strongest person in the room. Finding out that it was all apart of a plan to go behind her back to attack the Storm Sanctuary made the most sense, but I still didn’t see it coming. That’s what Murewa Ayodele does, keeps you on your toes and the edge of your seat.

With each issue of Storm being more exciting than the last, I am always impressed by how Ayodele is able to write Storm. Not only just write her character but is able to give so much to the story, making it constantly evolve with every new issue.

The Art

The creative team behind Storm #9 demonstrates a remarkable ability to align the artwork with the narrative. It showcases their talents consistently throughout the issue. Lucas Werneck, the primary artist, delivers a stunning portrayal of Storm, capturing her essence with elegance and power.

One of the standout aspects for me was Werneck’s depiction of Limbo, he masterfully conveys its eerie, shadowy atmosphere. Complementing his work, colorist Alex Guimarães enhances the visuals with impressive depth. His use of darker and warmer tones, especially in the Limbo scenes, adds richness and mood, highlighting his skill and synergy with Werneck’s illustrations.

Overall Grade – 9.3/10
