The Story

Shawn – Gerry Duggan continues to bring the laughs with Wonder Man #5. I expected a great final issue, but Simon just casually showing up, looking comfortable while saying Randolph better be okay or he’s gonna be angry was hilarious. While we knew that Walters was behind the activities of this series, Duggan still found a surprising and relevant way to explain how he ended up being so desperate.

Duggan wraps this story up beautifully. Wonder Man #5 functions as part of a Simon Williams story and part of a love letter to LA. Simon is written as surprisingly introspective, and it’s refreshing to see. The slight twist at the end gives Simon and Patsy perhaps the most Hollywood ending ever, and that’s just perfect for Wonder Man

Megan – The conclusion to Wonder Man was pure fun and a lot of great comedic moments. Gerry Duggan has taken this run all the way home and ended with the same energy that he started with. Throughout the comic, there have been some excellent moments such as Simon being the true hero, despite his constant ego always worn on his sleeve. Other moments that were a highlight for me were between Simon and Hellcat, with the flirting, the coming together romantically, and working side by side as heroes. There was a lot to love about this run, and I think Gerry Duggan brought it home in a great way.

In Wonder Man #5, Simon knows exactly who’s at fault for all the chaos and rushes to put their reign to an end before they can cause more of a ruckus. With the whole plan known and all the facts straight, Simon has everything he needs to put an end to the scheming.

The Art

Shawn – Phil Noto wraps this one up beautifully. The art is fresh, keeping the bright colors and crisp feel of the previous four issues. The art captures not only the pain and damage of the areas hurt by fire, but the resilience of the areas as well.

Noto does a great job capturing the emotions of Simon and Patsy as well as Simon’s sense of humor. The emotions jump off the page. The challenge of such a setting is that it is filled with iconic backdrops, and Noto captures them perfectly.

Megan – Phil Noto and Joe Caramagna bring this series to a satisfying close with their excellent artwork. Noto’s linework was fantastic, with excellently detailed panels that left nothing on the table. The coloring was filled with vibrancy and contrasting colors that made Wonder Man practically pop off the page. Joe Caramagna handled the lettering and really captured the comedic energy from the story through the dialogue.

Final Thoughts

Shawn – 10/10. A perfect and satisfying story from beginning to end. This is part story part love letter and it is a really fun yet powerful look at an often underused character.

Megan – 9/10. This was a great ending to what’s been a very fun run! Gerry Duggan really captured the entertaining side of Simon Williams in this run and the readers will benefit greatly from it!

Overall Grade – 9.5/10
