The Story

During the X-Manhunt event, Storm offered solace to Charles Xavier, who was on the run from Graymalkin Prison. While Charles got away scot-free, Storm’s situation proves that no good deed goes unpunished. Now that the dust has settled, Storm is now under investigation of the FBI because of her involvement with Charles while he was on the run.

This was the last thing Storm needed with everything going on lately, like the attack of the Storm Gods. With Storm Gods attacking each other, it’s leading to a Thunder War, according to Thor. With a Thunder War brewing, you can be sure that Storm will be right in the middle of it. However, she must first get through this investigation with the FBI, but that isn’t looking too promising. The lead detective involved, Special Agent Fabiyi, seems to already have his mind made up about Storm.

Meanwhile, with Storm being away, it seems it’s time for Maggot to play. Maggot is left to watch over the Storm Sanctuary, but he has other plans. He has taken it upon himself to organize an MMA-style event that includes the likes of She-Hulk, Juggernaut, Big Bertha, Abomination, along with a few others. With a battle of the power-shifters, along with Storm’s battle of the judicial system, it’ll be interesting to see who will be victorious.

The Writing

It’s hard to believe so much happened in one comic book issue, but Murewa Ayodele organizes with flawlessly with a perfect flow. There’s a Thunder War brewing behind the scenes, which you can bet will be something epic as long as Ayodele is behind it. Besides the impending war of the Thunder Gods, you also have Storm facing punishment for her actions in supporting Charles Xavier.

That part of the comic is what really stood out to me. It was so clear that the special agent was there to bring Storm down any way he could, by questioning her past in Cairo, or looking for something she was doing wrong with the Storm Sanctuary. From the beginning of his interrogation, you could feel his coldness in every word, which shows you just how well Murewa Ayodele is able to entrance you with his writing.

The Art

Lucas Werneck and Mario Santoro are the artists of Storm #8, along with Alex Guimarães handling the colors, and Travis Lanham on letters. The artists, once again, have brought so much heat to the already undeniably exciting storyline, as they have this entire run. The artists nailed the cold and ominous energy of the FBI interrogation room, while capturing the exhilaration of the battle of the power-shifters organized by Maggot. As I said before, so much happens in Storm #8, and the artists expertly showcased their talents in every way.

Final Thoughts

Storm #8 is one of many examples in this run of how well a story can be written when there’s passion behind it. You can see Murewa Ayodele and the rest of the creative team have so much genuine care for the character, which leads to Storm getting the credit she deserves as a character.

Overall Grade – 9.2/10
