The Story
After Bucky was forced to surrender to Doctor Doom to save Wakanda from another Shelbyville situation, Black Widow was busy forming her own Thunderbolts team to break him out. Black Widow’s team consisted of Songbird, Sharon Carter, Ghost Rider, Ayo, and Captain America. Once the Thunderbolts bust Bucky out of Doom’s fortress, Black Widow says they have an extraction set up to get them out of there, but Bucky refuses. This is the only chance they’ll have, he says. Black Widow disagrees, and Bucky says the least they can do is leave Doom with more scars to remember them by.

In their attempt to cause damage to the likes of Doom, they’re greeted by the former Thunderbolts team once again. Now it’s a fight between Bucky’s Thunderbolts, the former Thunderbolts members and Doom’s endless supply of Doombots. It’s time for the Thunderbolts to stand for what’s right, to carry on their Revolution.
The Writing
We’ve finally come to head with the Thunderbolts and their fight against Doom. Songbird, Ayo, Ghost Rider, Black Widow, Sharon, Captain America, and Bucky make an incredible team and a perfect lead of the revolution against the World Emperor. Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly have created a comic run that has so much depth along with a great amount of action. Thunderbolts: Doomstrike is one of my favorite runs to come out of the One World Under Doom event, and the fifth installment was the perfect ending.
In Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #5, there’s a huge satisfaction in seeing the team fight together, and reading Bucky’s words explaining the need for the revolution. Bucky proved himself, yet again, to be a powerhouse of leader for the Revolution.
The Art
Tommaso Bianchi, Yen Nitro, and Joe Sabino are to thank for the fantastic artwork of Thunderbolts: Doomstrike. The artists have been extremely consistent in the quality of the art, and the fifth issue is no exception. Along with a lot of action, the comic also has a lot of heart, which the artists captured perfectly in Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #5.
Some of my favorite parts of the comic has to do with the illustration of the different powersets during the battle. Songbird’s powerset is always gorgeous, but her panels led to a particularly heart-wrenching panel of her where the artists really captured her emotion. All in all, I think the artists really elevated the already exciting storyline by bringing these characters to life.
Overall Grade – 9/10
