The Story

After Bucky surrendered to Doctor Doom in order to save Wakanda, the world thought it was done for the best. The world was still under the impression that Bucky was behind the tragedy that took place in Shelbyville, and it was said that he was attempting to hit Wakanda as well. Now, Doom has him held hostage at Doomstadt, and tells Bucky that he will defend his revolution before Doom. Of course, Bucky will lose and he will die, according to the World Emperor. Bucky tells Doom to do his worst, but maybe he spoke too soon.
Doom sticks the PSI-Temples of He Who Mourns in Misery to Bucky’s head, and makes him see the lives lost in Shelbyville, showing him that his revolution is wrong.
Meanwhile, Black Widow is recruiting help to save Bucky. She searches for Ghost Rider to join her own revolution to save Bucky. Then she visits Wakanda and seeks help from the Midnight Angels, that is after she destroyed the Doombots that were attacking them. After she joins her new team with Songbird and Sharon, they’re plan of attack is in motion.
The Writing

Continuing the Thunderbolts’ portion of the One World Under Doom event, Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly bring even more action to the comic run. With Bucky being Doom’s hostage at Doomstadt, the Sorcerer Supreme shows just how diabolic and evil he is. Torturing Bucky, then leaving him in the hands of Val for her to harm him however she’d like really showed how serious he is about his own revolution.
Then, having the Thunderbolts team taking out Doombots left and right throughout the comic and joining together to save Bucky makes me really excited for what’s to come in Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #5. It looks to be shaping up to be a banger of a comic, especially with the surprise guest at the end of Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #4.
The Art
Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #4 has the grittiness you’d expect from a story with Bucky as the main character, but with the mystical, abstract art you’d expect from Doctor Doom. The most stunning panels involve the Thunderbolts team, including Songbird, Black Widow, and Sharon. With Songbirds beautiful powerset matched with the dark scenes the women are in, they make for some remarkable panels courtesy of Tommaso Bianchi and Yen Nitro. Joe Sabino is the exclamation point at the end of this wildly exciting storyline that has the art to match the story. Hats off to the artists!
Overall Grade – 8.7/10
