The Art and Letters:

I wanted to kick off with the artwork because John Timms has outdone himself with this gorgeous cover that gives us an appetizer of what to expect. The colors of teal, orange, silver, and reddish all fit together creating a visually stunning cover.

Inside the pages, John, Rex, and Jefferson put in serious work making this issue kick some serious butt. The variety of creatures drawn up and the way they all have different skin textures and blemishes shows the amount of thought and creativity inside this book. When it comes to making the water move and work around our characters it is as though they are swimming and we can feel the wetness ourselves.

The lettering inside by Dave matches energies as there are a lot of fun sound effects and when it comes time for action the letters match their voices. All in all this is the best done issue artistically for me.

The Story:

Jeremy is bringing a ton of action to this story, but what stands out to me is how Arthur’s demeanor is stoic, yet he is not one to pass up a joke. The blend of dad humor built into his badassery is why Arthur is one of my favorite characters. There is also a surprise character I did not expect to see show up in this book and yet his arrival makes perfect sense for a story about the ocean and what lies beneath. The story has flowed like the ocean itself and this book is a big standout for me personally.

Overall Grade: 10/10

Aquaman #5 kicks the action up a notch and further takes us into this world of adventure. Arthur’s mission to bring back his people feels a lot like a classic adventure film such as Indiana Jones and even has humor tied into it. I cannot recommend this book enough and you need to be reading this run!
