Jumpscare #3 Killing Time with an Enemy of Mine

Published:

Allie decides to tear through the demons holding her sister hostage. At the end of the line, only the massive mound of teeth and flesh, Grindhouse, stands between Jumpscare and her pious sister. It’s time for a boss fight! It’s not that simple though. This one takes a surprising turn as The Dismal Conclave springs into action!

An Action Packed Jumpscare!

Grindhouse threatens to torture Jumpscare’s sister Rebecca. Jumpscare prepares for a speed run through the demons hideout. The Dismal Conclave mounts up for a full on frontal offensive! There’s a lot going on, but not everything is as it seems.

Cullen Bunn takes us on a new ride. Well, maybe not new, but cranks up the intensity! Jumpscare stands outside of a rundown hotel, preparing to tear here way through the halls. She’s decided to save her sister after all, and that says a lot about who she really is under the surface. Allie summons a new horror movie weapon and proceeds to rip everything in sight to shreds until she finds her sister…and Grindhouse.

Characters and Action Drive a Fascinating Story

It’s a lot fun reading Jumpscare’s dialogue. It’s fun and light and paces with the action in the panels so well. Seeing her find new ways to use her powers is exciting, and taking on her first boss battle is a blast! Bunn uses this fight to insert some more lore and background story telling. It becomes a really interesting dynamic between Jumpscare and Grindhouse.

As the fight rages on, The Dismal Conclave shows up with a team of their own and they are not for the faint of heart! Fascinating characters move through the panels and pages giving us new insight. The fight is intense and brutal. Through it all, Jumpscare is concerned for her sister. Allie’s character continues to show depth and growth as the story unfolds.

Jumpscare is a Beautifully Disgusting Neon Thrill Ride

The artwork in this issue is nothing short of spectacular! It’s an action packed issue, so there’s tons of dynamic action intensified by creative angles and sight lines. It moves almost like a ballet of blood and gore! Danny Luckert’s creature designs are out of this world gross and fun to look at. From the beautiful line work to the visceral imagery, it all shines like a beacon of bad-ass.

The colors of Jumpscare are a huge part of it’s success. I love the pink, blue, green, and purple shade of the environments. It creates a neon soaked world that is a constant source of danger. It also acts as the perfect canvas for the blood splatter and high impact scenes.

Overall Grade: 10/10

This book isn’t getting the love it deserves. Horror fans should be all over this one! Jumpscare is a fun, over the top character with a lot more going on than she shows. The lore being crafted beneath this story arc is meaty and will soon blast off in a great way! The art is gross and beautiful. The colors make it impossible to not stay on a panel and appreciate the vibe. This is an all around blast! Are you enjoying Jumpscare?
