Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 11th issue of The Ultimates from Deniz Camp & Marvel!

This issue is a definite change of pace from the more recent issues, and delves into a little bit of what’s going on with Thor, Sif & Loki. So let’s jump into it!

The Ultimates #11 by Deniz Camp (Writer), Juan Frigeri (Artist), Federico Blee (Color Artist), VC’s Travis Lanham (Letterer), Dike Ruan & Neeraj Menon (Cover Artists) is a solid issue that takes some interesting turns, but ultimately feels a little liker filler at the moment.

The story is a change of pace from what we’ve seen in the last few issues, in that the primary story takes a bit of a backseat to focus on just a few players. Those players are Thor, Sif & Loki to be specific.

The story is a little bit campy, if I’m being 100% honest. Whereas the recent issues have been going at a breakneck pace with things barreling towards The Maker’s return. Alternatively this issue decides to slow things down a bit and pull back the curtain a little bit.

Nevertheless it is an interesting, and compelling story. Firstly, Loki gets a BIG feature in this issue and he isn’t anything like the one we’ve seen. This is especially clear when we remember that he’s the King of Asgard.

The story bounces around a little to much for my liking, but ultimately ends on a high note. The final panel is a shocking one, but we’ll see what Deniz has cooking next.

The Art

The artwork done by Frigeri & Blee is top notch. There’s a multitude of scenarios they have to put together in this issue. And they do a masterful job portraying them all. Undoubtedly the best panel has to be Loki on the throne.

FINAL POINT: The issue isn’t a bad one, but it isn’t a home run either. It has it’s compelling moments, but lacks in some areas. Nonetheless the artwork makes up for a story that isn’t as good as some recent issues.

Overall Grade: 7/10
