Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk Shifts Gears
This was fun. Just plain old fun! Sabretooth has been right at home in the Five Points street gangs of the turn-of-the-century New York. In a world that’s dog eat dog, the biggest dog in the yard has been eating good!
Now, he’s done with being used to the advantage of others and he and his new love Dragonfire are taking it all for themselves. Sabretooth and Dragonfire are near unstoppable as they take out the other gangs is some fantastic action scenes! It’s like if Bonnie and Clyde had superpowers!

Of course the more power they acquire, the more they put themselves in the spotlight. No matter how strong and intimidating they may be, escalation is a real thing. When Sabretooth’s former boss Fisk has had enough of his “Mad Dog”, he comes to put him down…in a suit of Iron Man armor!
Writing a Different Creed in The Dead Don’t Talk
As I stated above this issue was tons of fun. The opening was a blast from horror movies past as Sabretooth and Dragonfire take on a gang of vampires in an epic fight. Tieri was firing on all cylinders in this issue. Action, romance, revenge…there’s was a little bit of everything and it never felt like too much!
I was pleasantly surprised to see Tieri explore the softer side of Victor Creed. It’s weird seeing him kind of vulnerable with Dragonfire, love scenes and all, but I liked it. It’s tough to take the meat grinder we know as Sabretooth and make him relatable.
The Dead Don’t Talk but the Art Does
The art in this series has gotten better with each issue. Maria can do it all! There’s big action scenes like fighting vampires and a huge battle with Fisk in an Iron Man type of suit. We get some relaxed and intimate moments between Sabretooth and Dragonfire. Then, there’s the brutality of a bloody, dramatic scene. So much detail and raw emotions is portrayed on the pages.
Rachelle Rosenberg takes over color duties in this issue and she takes Maria’s work to another level! Bright and rich color contrast so well with dark shadows. There’s one beautiful moment where the rays of sunshine dance on a horrible scene of carnage and it’s amazing!
Overall Grade: 9/10
Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk has been a pleasant surprise so far! This really is one of the best miniseries that Marvel has going right now. Frank Tieri is taking a character that has been very one dimensional in the past and giving him so many layers. Great character work all around. The artwork grows with each issue. The grittiness of this world fits Sabretooth perfectly. I’m excited for the conclusion after the huge reveal at the end of this issue!
