The Murder Variant
Written By Chris Condon – Art By Martin Morazzo – Colors By Chris O’Halloran – Letters By Pat Brosseau
The Murder Variant tells the story of Donald a comic book collector. He goes to purchase some comics at a storage unit and discovers a super rare comic in mint condition. Upon arriving home to his nagging wife, he exclaims about his finding and how valuable it is. This falls on deaf ears, as his wife only cares about preparing dinner because her brother is coming over. Well Donald is lending a hand, his wife ruins the mint comic. This is the final straw for Donald, and his wrath will be felt.
Chris Condon does it again, crafting a fun yet thrilling story. Proving that he deserves his spot as a top writer in the horror comic genre. The art in this tale is also amazing. Giving the retro vibe of horror anthologies from the past well spicing it up for this generation of readers.
True-ish Crime
Written By John Arcudi – Art By Shawn McManus – Letters By Pat Brosseau
True-ish Crime is the tale of true crime podcasters Lynn & Bern who are attempting to sole where the body of Nicky Hinton is. Nicky and her child were killed by her husband Alex who has been sentenced to death for these crimes. Alex claims he didn’t do it, however the internet sleuths think he did and are trying to find Nicky’s body to prove it. After some tips in a message board Lynn & Bern find themselves in the forest, at the entrance of a cave. Inside of this cave they will get their answer, however it’s one that they could never imagine.
This tale has a great setup and twist that you don’t see coming. Mixing in the popular worlds of horror with true crime is a match made in heaven. The art and the colors really pop off the page. Each panel has you wanting to see what’s next.
