Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the latest issue of Ultimate Spider-Man from Jonathan Hickman & Marvel!

It’s a very important issue this week with a change going on in Peter Parker’s life. It’s one that I’m sure many of you figured would be coming at some point in time. It’s an issue that is sure to have a lot of people talking, and with that said…let’s jump into it!

Ultimate Spider-Man #11 by Jonathan Hickman (writer), David Messina (guest artist), Matthew Wilson (color artist), VC’s Cory Petit (letterer), Marco Checchetto & Matthew Wislon (cover artists) is a very intriguing issue for a couple of reasons. One involves Harry Osborn & the other is someone incredibly close to Peter.

Peter is the main focus of the issue. It starts off with Peter waiting for Harry at a stake out. Harry is over two hours late. Harry doesn’t answer his phone, and then Peter calls Doctor Octavius to ask if he knows. He doesn’t know but he can track him down through a tracker in his suit. But before Otto can tell Peter, a bank robbery is taking place.

VOTE IN THIS YEARS’ CHEERSIES!

Now, it should be reiterated that Peter doesn’t know where Harry is. Given recent developments involving Harry, one can only guess that it isn’t exactly shopping for a new suit for dinner on Friday. Mark my words, we will find out where he’s at during this moment. I don’t think it’s going to be a simple case of “I was busy doing this thing”. It wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the lie Harry tells to Peter.

The bank robbery is being perpetrated by Mr. Negative and members of his gang, and Peter fends off the robbery with relative ease. Perhaps it’s just a little too easy. Because after the robbery Mr. Negative meets up with Wilson Fisk and his underlings (the other villains of NYC).

The big moment of the issue is between Uncle Ben & Peter. Peter meets up with Ben later that night after the robbery, and they have a discussion. Uncle Ben is not stupid and a very intuitive individual, and he’s figured out a large secret. I won’t say what it is, but I’m sure you can figure out what it is. It’s a touching moment between the two, because it’s one I don’t think we’ve seen from this perspective. So to see this change in story is a welcome change.

FINAL POINT: While the action is kept to a simple bank robbery, it’s still a very important issue. The developments with Harry & Uncle Ben make for a compelling story that will be interesting to see play out over the next few issues. Hickman is an absolute master at storytelling and he’s weaving another masterpiece with this one.

SCORE: 8.5 out of 10
