Batman and Robin Year 2 Chapter 2:
Is Billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne adopting a child out of the goodness of his heart? It seems too good to be true for the adoption agency, which is placing bets and unannounced visits hoping to catch Bruce in a publicity stunt as he takes in Dick Grayson. Meanwhile, Batman and Robin are brutal at work, training and digging into the mysterious Maroni, when things go sideways one evening, leaving Bruce worried for the fate of his young trainee.

The Artwork:
Chris Samnee and Giovanna Niro do an excellent job capturing the late 80’s and early 90’s essence of this story. The colors are bright while remaining soft against the page. It giving this the feel of an old school newspaper comicbook. Gotham appears ripped straight out of the Animated Series giving us familiar backgrounds and faces amongst Gotham’s criminals.
The high-flying stunts by Grayson are drawn and styled expertly. You almost expect him to flip right out of the book and into our faces. This book has a lot of excellent artwork made even more sound by Clayton Cowles work with the letters and FX.
The Story:
Mark Waid diving into our dynamic duo’s training and early days is a lot of fun. Waid captures Bruce’s seriousness as he takes Batman and trains him to a level of severity that is almost too much.
When it comes to other characters, such as Alfred, he can write him with the snark we would expect of our beloved Butler and father figure. It endears him to us all the more.
VOTE IN THIS YEARS’ CHEERSIES!
There are moments in this issue that Waid captures well, mainly a moment showing fear for Batman as Robin races into a fiery building to save those trapped inside.
Overall:
Batman and Robin Year One Chapter 2 is full of high-flying action moments and snarky quips from our characters, making this issue hold a nostalgic feeling for the reader. The dynamic between Batman and Robin sucks us into the story making this issue rise to the top of our monthly pull pile!
