King Ghidorah and the Fall of Rome

Issue #5 opens with the Kaiju battle of Rome, where the Kaiju teamed up to take out King Ghidorah. It is then explained that on that day Rome didn’t fall and in honor of this the Sons of Giants were born. The whole time this tale was being told to Lane from President Jefferson they were in search for Franklins secret workshop. Because of that story the workshop was found.

Once in the workshop Lane & Jefferson searched through the room and found a lot of things that may be helpful to the cause. Just then they are confronted by a lizard person who tells them he is a Xilien and is on earth to take it over again. The Xilien tries to kill President Jefferson, but Lane jumps in front of the President, which allows Jefferson to kill the Xilien. Unfortunately, Mr. Lane loses his life, but Jefferson has way bigger problems on the horizon, that may need an ultra-solution.

Let Me Inside the Skin

Godzilla HTBD #5 continues this journey we’ve been on, well revealing the rest of the story that explains the Sons of Giants and introducing the threat of Xilien’s. Frank Tieri has done a masterful job of creating this new mythology and tying in real historical figures and events in this series. The heartfelt exit of Lane is only matched by the big twist ending.

The art in this book and series has been fantastic. Inaki Miranda’s art feels epic and larger than life. There are no wasted panels in this entire issue. The colors give the perfect accent to the art and story, while the lettering brings your eyes in and keeps you focused.

Final Thoughts
